One of my favorite people, my sister Midori, has an awesome post called “‘The Notebook’ Insights for women, Tips for men.”
She talks about the movie, The Notebook, and how the central character, Noah, is great example for a truly romantic, loving man. She writes:
Noah is the prototype of what women desire in a man.
I wish men would take notes while watching this movie. There is so much
to be learned from Noah’s character. Every woman I know who has seen
this movie notes that Noah at first seems rather plain in physical
appearance but by the end of the movie he’s like a Greek god!
Then she gives ten things women love based on Noah’s qualities.
- Men who are willing to make fools of themselves to show how much they want to be with you.
- Men who are persistent.
- Men who only have eyes for one woman.
- Men who keep their promises regardless of circumstances.
- Men who do the loving thing even when it hurts.
- Men who esteem themselves not because of worldly accomplishments but in the accomplishment of loving another deeply.
- Men who really listen.
- Men who would tell the truth, risk hurting our feelings, and fight with us rather than withdraw and brush issues under the rug to preserve peace.
- Men who are realists
- Men who want us till death do us part.

women do but girls dont always. women dont want bad boys, girls do. the problem some of my guy friends complain about college girls is that they always want the bad boys. the truth is girls in college can be every bit as immature as the guys sometimes. which is why its not a good idea generally to try and get married when you are only 21 or 22. dont worry the right woman will show up.

This all very well may be true and edifying. However, as men, we should take our lessons on what a woman desires in a man from the Word of God. There are so many examples and lessons…
Above all else, Christ is our greatest example of a true man! As the bible says, “By beholding we become changed.” Let us men desiring to be the Godly men (including this romantic, loving guy)… … Behold Christ!
The bible also says in 1 John, “We love because He first loved us.” Christ is the source of any true love. This loving, romantic guy figure from a movie script is only pratical application of these principles.
We have no good thing wihin us. We are in such great need of His help. This is our only claim on God’s mercy.
“In my hand no price I bring
Simply to Thy cross I cling.”
This is not to argue these edifying points but only to give better perspective for us men seeking to be a Godly husband and father.
May the Lord bless you all!

Aaron, true women do realize these things. As I pray and read the Word, I’ll be better prepared to distinguish between true women and immature girls. Then, I’ll pursue the true woman and hope she likes me :)

Derrick, I agree with you that the Bible must be our ultimate guide to the characteristics of a loving, romantic man.
Thanks for your comments.

WOW…. I kinna agree with the characteristics. But there are FEW guys who actually fit those description ;)… so, I believe GOD will help you find the man and their characters necessarily.. ;)

I agree with you that there are not a lot of guys with these characteristics. They are high standards. I’m praying that God would inspire guys including myself to change and be more loving and godly. Also, we can encourage the guys around us to strive for these characteristics.
