I have bad news.
Life is tough. Life is difficult. Life is unfair.
One day you’re enjoying life as a kid. The next day a close relative sexually molests you.
One day you’re parents are together. The next day they’re separated and divorced.
One day you’re dating an amazing person. The next day you’re heartbroken.
One day you have a great job making good money. The next day you’re laid off for no reason.
One day you have a home. The next day your home is fully submerged in water because of a hurricane.
One day you have good health. The next day you find out you have cancer.
Each of us struggle with issues in our lives that cause us to feel unhappy, depressed, out-of-control, or guilty. Whether it’s anger, lust, gluttony, greed, worry, anxiety, fear, pride, or low self-esteem, we have destructive habits and ways of thinking that bring us down.
The difficulties of life touch every single person on this earth. Through natural disasters, sickness, others’ attacks, or our own destructive habits, sin wrecks our lives.
I have good news.
Someone lived a sinless life in the midst of this sinful world. This person knew what it was like to have difficulties. He grew up in a poor home. He was misunderstood by his own family. He was betrayed by his close friends. He was rejected by society.
In spite of all this, he lived a life to serve others. He taught crowds the right way to live. He welcomed children. He healed the sick. He comforted the weak. He fought against corrupt leaders. He saw the potential of humanity to become more selfless.
He was innocent yet he died as a convicted criminal.
He rose from the dead. He claimed to be God.
His name is Jesus. If you follow Him, He promises to give you love, joy, and peace in the midst of your trials. Your life may not get easier, but He will walk with you through the difficulties. He’ll lead, guide, and help you.
He said, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT).
Others have followed Him and their lives have radically changed for the better. Will you follow Him?
