23 days to a better devotional life - day 23

February 28th, 2006 · 2 Comments

(Day 23 of a series called “23 days to a better devotional life.” Last post in the series. God is good! I’ll write up an overview within the next couple of days.)

There is no substitute in the Christian’s life for daily Bible reading and prayer.

I can attend powerful spiritual programs. I can listen to great sermons. I can read good religious books. I can be part of a awesome support group. I can have godly friends. I can listen to Christian music. And while these things will help me spiritually, it’s more important to read the Bible and pray.

Nothing compares to personal time with God. No other activities can take its place. In John 17:3 Jesus prayed,

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

I can’t think of a better way to know God personally than through Bible reading and prayer.

Deep down inside I have an aching to know God. I need to know Him as my friend. I need to know Him as the Creator of the universe. I need to know Him as the One who lived and died for me.

You don’t have to look far to draw close to God. Just find a quiet place today, bring your Bible, and focus on the One who loves You.
