(Day 10 of a series called “23 days to a better devotional life.†I’m posting daily this month on devotions.)
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
This is a simple method that helps me give thanks to God. First, I pick a number. Let’s say 17. Then, I thank God for at least that many things. Simple.
Actually, I’ll do it right now and let you in on my prayer. Here we go.
- My date went well yesterday
- Gum
- A friend that listened to me rant for two hours yesterday
- I feel like I’m blogging faster
- Chinese food
- Two friends I saw yesterday that are starting to memorize Scripture
- Classical music that calms me down
- Broadband even in my small town
- Over $200 in offerings from University Church
- Life-altering articles like this one
- On Monday, my friend reminded me that my salvation is based on Jesus’ works not mine
- I’m on a friend’s prayer list
- My one college class is very interesting
- Lindsay, my date (”Lindsay, you’re awesome. I hope you had fun. I definitely did. I enjoyed our interesting conversation.”)
- Naps especially when I get five hours of sleep
- Being able to pray no matter where I am
- Bottled water

God is good, isn’t He? Sometimes it’s hard to find things to be thankful for. But this week has been great so far.
Elaine and Femi, thanks for your comments.
